Some women have found my greetings or embraces for a hug or photo inappropriate, and I respect their

Egypt: Mosque attack death toll climbs to 305 as warplanes strike 'terrorist' targets

Egypt’s military has responded with air strikes directed at “terrorist” locations and vehicles after hundreds of people were killed in a bomb and gun assault on a mosque in the north of the country, sources report. It further reports that Egypt’s chief prosecutor, Nabil Sadeq, said the 305 people killed included 27 children, while a further 128 people were wounded in the attack on the al-Rawdah mosque in Bir al-Abed, north Sinai. No group immediately claimed responsibility, but since 2013 Egyptian security forces have battled an Islamic State affiliate in the mainly desert region, and militants have killed hundreds of police and soldiers. The prosecutor also added that the attack was carried out by 25 to 30 militants, who stationed themselves at the mosque’s main door and 12 windows before opening fire on worshippers inside. Hours after the attack, Egypt’s military launched air strikes on

A South African appeals court on Friday increased Oscar Pistorius’ murder sentence to 13 years and five months after the state argued that his original sentence of six years was “shockingly lenient.” Pistorius was imprisoned in July last year after being found guilty on appeal of murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013 in a case that attracted worldwide interest. The sister of Steenkamp has said Pistorius has finally got what he deserved after the court more than doubled the murder sentence. The order reads as follows, one the application for leave to appeal is granted. Two the appeal against sentence is upheld. “The order reads as follows, one the application for leave to appeal is granted. Two the appeal against sentence is upheld. This Story is breaking, please check back for updates Emerson Mnangagwa has been sworn in as Zimbabwe President in a ceremony at a packed stadium in the capital, Harare. The swearing in follows the dramatic departure of Robert Mugabe after 37 years of authoritarian rule. The former vice-president’s dismissal earlier this month led the ruling Zanu-PF party and the army to intervene and force Mr Mugabe to quit. Mr Mnangagwa, who had fled the country, returned from exile on Wednesday. Nicknamed “the Crocodile” for his ruthlessness, Mnangagwa who took over on Friday as Zimbabwe’s president. It was his driving ambition to take over as leader which set off a bitter succession battle with Mugabe’s 52-year-old wife Grace, triggering the crisis that toppled the long-serving president, who resigned on Tuesday. Mnangagwa was dismissed as vice president by Mugabe on November 6, but the situation quickly turned around to his favor. With his dismissal tr

Dangote opens $300m cement plant in Congo-Brazzaville, country's biggest

The Dangote group has opened a $300 million cement production plant in the Republic of Congo. The facility which has a capacity of 1.5 million metric tonnes per annum is expected to be the biggest such facility in the Central African country. The plant is located at the Mfila area of the capital Brazzaville. The event which was graced by Congolese president Denis Sassou Nguesso brings to five the Dangote Group’s African footprints in the cement production business. The Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari was represented by a government delegation led by the Mines and Steel Development Minister, Kayode Fayemi. He emphasized the Buhari administration’s desire to help indigenous companies to thrive. It is envisaged that this will contribute substantially to the availability and affordability of cement in the country and the Republic of the Congo will no longer need to depend on imports to bridge the gap between demand and supply. Biafra agitation 'dead and gone,' Nigeria info minister jabs IPOB

Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has taken a swipe at Biafra separatists in the country’s southeast. According to him, the Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB ) did not have any concrete backing in the southeast adding that they were ‘dead and gone.’ The minister was speaking to reporters in the capital Abuja whiles addressing a range of issues in Africa’s most populous nation. He linked IPOB ’s death to a defiance of their boycott call by people in Anambra state during the November 18 governorship elections. I think the Anambra election has sounded the death knell on IPOB because they said election will never hold. The election has come and gone, the turnout was quite reasonable. “I think what that proved really is that IPOB does not represent the good people of Anambra or any state in the South East. “The people of Anambra have shown that there is no alternative to democracy and that they believe in one Nigeria and federal s
